ACTION REPORT – April 2024

Here’s my action report covering April giving an update on my work both in the Moseley Ward but also the work I do within the wider council. 

Anawim is now in Moseley

It was lovely to pop into opening day at Anawim’s new charity shop on the Alcester Road.  They have worked so hard getting it ready and it is already packed full of great bargains. Please do go along and support this new initiative and help this project to continue providing the valuable support that makes such a difference to women’s lives.

Food Bank Collection – Our April stall collected £120 for Kings Heath Foodbank and also saw some food donations for the Trussell Trust. A big thank you to all those that donated. Our next collection will be on 25^th May and we will be collecting for both Kings Heath and the Anawim Foodbanks. Please do come and donate if you can.

Advice surgeries – I hold regular advice surgeries on the first and fourth Thursday of the month. My SEND surgery is held on the 1st Thursday from 5-7pm by appointment only at the Hive. I also hold a general advice surgery on the fourth Thursday of the month from 6-7pm at the Moseley Exchange, no appointment necessary.

My monthly SEND advice surgery is being regularly booked up and last month I supported a number of families with a range of issues relating to the special educational needs of their children as well as a number of housing related issues. I am pleased to say that one of the housing issues has now been resolved. If you require some advice specific special educational needs and disability, then do get in touch. Casework and other updates

Manholes – the very noisy manhole cover that I reported on Yardley Wood Road has now been repaired by Severn Trent! This troublesome manhole cover was even featured by @stanchers on BCC Radio WM who talked to local residents who were frustrated by the constant noise.  

Flytipping – all of the flytipping that I reported last month has been cleared and as always, I am grateful to the waste service for taking quick action to remove. I have reported further flytipping on Anderton Park Road, Church Road, Sandford Road. Highways – Temporary repairs have been carried out in response to a number of reports regarding large potholes and uneven road surface at the Wake Green Road, Yardley Wood Road crossroads. I have again asked that Wake Green Road is from the crossroads with Yardley Wood Road up to College Road, and from Moseley School down to Sarehole Mill due to the deteriorating road surface and numerous potholes.

Lampposts – Two lampposts have been reported for urgent repair following vehicle collisions.  I am very grateful to the Kier team for coming out within an hour of me reporting the damaged lamp post on Mayfield Road. The other lamppost in Moseley Village outside Bohemian has also been reported for repair and I have asked that a new bracket be attached ahead of the floral displays in June.

Graffiti – This is an ongoing problem not just across Moseley but across the City as a whole. I have reported street signs that have been tagged and have asked BT to take action to clean up the phone box on Forest Road and again have asked if they plan to remove it given it is a magnet for anti social behaviour. Unfortunately, the response I have received back states there are no current plans to do so but a job has been raised for a full clean of the payphone.

Education, Children and Young People O&S Committee

The Scrutiny Report on Child Criminal Exploitation was presented to the full council meeting on the 16^th April. Contact and Communication

I have also been out knocking doors and talking to residents about local issues and will be launching a new survey over the next couple of weeks. This will inform my priorities over the coming months and I will provide more information via social media and in the May update.
