A soggy PM ended months of speculation over the date of the election yesterday as he kick-started a six-week election campaign announcing that the country will finally head to the polls on July 4.
Sir Keir Starmer welcomed the election last night, saying: “It’s time for change”.
The summer vote will be the first July election since 1945, when Sir Winston Churchill’s Conservatives were kicked out in a Labour landslide.
We hold regular campaigning and canvassing sessions as we know how valuable talking to people on the doorstep is for any campaign. The fantastic results of the PCC and the Mayoral election showed us just how important this is in turning out the vote.
Meeting voters face-to-face lets us understand which issues are most important to them, and identify who is likely to vote Labour and who still needs to be persuaded.
Our campaigning activity will increase over the coming weeks and we need as many of our members and supporters helping us with this work.
